Call for Artists:
Artist Residency & Creative Process Study
This year-long project examines how creative work unfolds under different conditions of environment, routine, and constraint. Through two residency pathways, we explore how artistic process shifts when artists either remain within their usual working conditions or step outside them.
Participating artists should expect:
A cash Stipend (varies on residency)
A $200 cash stipend for preparing materials for a Group exhibition in Fall 2027 at the International Arts Center
To participate in 4-5 studio visits to support reflection on your individual body of work and the collaborative group exhibition process
To actively participate in the 5-day residency of focused studio practice and process documentation, contributing to a year-long research project investigating how attention, environment, and disruption shape creative work over time. This will be scheduled the first week of 2027.
Applicants may choose one residency option:
Restorative Residency (Chinati Hot Springs outside Marfa, TX): Artists temporarily step away from their normal studio environment to work in a remote, open-air setting without digital connectivity (you can charge your devices but there is no cell service). $750 cash stipend for participation.
Business-as-Usual Studio Residency: Artists remain in their own studio or home workspace and document how their creative process unfolds under ordinary working conditions. $200 cash stipend for participation (I pay you to do what you typically do!).
Both pathways involve sustained studio inquiry, reflective documentation of works in progress, and participation in a longer-term research project examining artistic process. Selected artists will contribute to a final exhibition, publication, and public dialogue.
Priority will be given to those who:
Are at a career stage could benefit from dedicated time and public exhibition (e.g., up for tenure or promotion, solo exhibition preparation)
Are part of a couple or team who are both working artists and comfortable sharing accommodations.
Their scholarship has been limited due to financial constraints (e.g., no institutional, work, or family funds) or domestic constraints (e.g., caregiver who cannot participate in extended or typical residencies).

Applicants should read below about each option and select the one that best fits their working conditions & availability.
